A: An Ophthalmologist is a physician or medical doctor who specializes in the diagnosis and the medical and surgical treatment of eye diseases. Back to top Q: How is an Ophthalmologist different from an Optometrist and an Optician? A: An Ophthalmologist is a medical doctor with specialty training in the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases. An ophthalmologist's training consists of college, 4 years of medical school, and 3 to 4 years in a residency program specializing in medical and surgical eye care. An Optometrist prescribes glasses and contact lenses, but is not a medical doctor, and does not treat all eye diseases nor do eye surgery. An Optician is a specialist in the fitting and production of glasses. Back to top Q: What is an Eye M.D.? A: An Eye M.D. is the same as an Ophthalmologist. An Eye M.D. is a medical doctor who specializes in the diagnosis and the medical and surgical treatment of eye diseases. Back to top Q: What services does your office provide? A: Our comprehensive services include routine eye exams, including checking the eyes for glasses; the use of diagnostic tests for eye diseases such as cataracts, macular degeneration, and glaucoma; medical, laser, and surgical treatment for eye diseases and conditions; examinations for and fitting of contact lenses; and fitting and dispensing of glasses and sunglasses. Surgical services include small incision cataract surgery with lens implants (intraocular lenses), glaucoma surgery, combined cataract and glaucoma surgery, corneal transplantation, eye muscle or strabismus surgery, oculoplastic surgery, and Botox injections. Back to top Q: What is a refraction? A: A refraction is the testing used to determine the prescription needed in your glasses to allow you to see clearly. It is an important part of your eye exam, although because it is not related to a medical condition it is not paid for by Medicare and some other insurance companies. Back to top Q: Do you perform LASIK and other refractive surgery procedures? A: Patients wanting refractive surgery may obtain it through our office at the Emory Vision Center in Atlanta. Our affiliation with the Emory Vision Center allows our patients to receive the most up-to-date refractive surgery available. We will be happy to work with you in arranging for your refractive surgery, and will assist in the pre-operative and post-operative care. Back to top Q: Where is your office located? A: The office address is 905 Stevens Creek Rd, Augusta, GA 30907. We are on the corner of Riverwatch Parkway and Stevens Creek Rd, by the carwash and railroad tracks.
